This small booklet started life in 2010 as a gift to attendees at the large retreat held at Nottingham University, with Thich Nhat Hanh and monastics from Plum Village. It introduced newcomers to the basic practices that they were likely to encounter on retreat. For the 2012 Nottingham retreat it was reprinted with a new cover. Lots of people found the booklet very valuable and it seemed a good idea to have something similar for everyday use. So the expanded and revised version was born in 2013. It is aimed primarily for beginners to the practice, but also for general use both at home and in sanghas.
Since then, another publication – ‘Mindfulness Trainings Recitation Booklet’ – has been produced. This includes the up-to-date Five and Fourteen Mindfulness Trainings, complete with all the chants and formal recitation procedure. So for this edition of ‘How to Enjoy Your Practice’ we have removed the Fourteen Mindfulness Trainings , but have kept the Five. This has created space for a few more gems of our practice, such as Incense Offering and the Two Promises. We have changed the considerably to avoid any confusion between the two booklets. We have also added some basic information for practising with a sangha, along with updated wording where appropriate – for example the Five Contemplations before eating.
May all who hold this booklet in their two hands enjoy their wonderful practice. May you be peaceful, may you be happy, may you be well.
The price is £3.00 plus postage.
The Practice Booklet is available from the COI Book Service.
